It’s time for every high-end European automaker to get their founder’s life story sent to the big screen. Italian movie producer Andrea Iervolino is following up 2023’s Ferrari and 2022’s Lamborghini: The Man Behind The Legend with a feature-length story about Ettore Bugatti, the founder and first CEO of the French automaker that bears his name.
Bugatti the movie does not yet have a title. It’s expected to start filming in Italy and France beginning late next year.

Bugatti was founded as an automaker by an Italian-born designer named Ettore Bugatti in Molsheim, Alsace, when the French city was a German one in 1909. Bugatti created several successful cars for road and racing, but Ettore’s death in 1947 led to the company ceasing operations in 1952 before a short-lived revival in 1963. The brand was revived again in 1987, resulting in the EB110 GT, but the company we know today only appeared in 1998, when Volkswagen Group acquired the brand. In 2005, the Veyron arrived, setting the tone for Bugatti’s contemporary era.

Producer Is Turning All The Italian Auto Greats Into Films
Deadline reports that Andrea Iervolino is planning to tell the story of Bugatti. He is currently in talks with writers and directors for the film. Like Ferrari, this will be an English-language film with a US and international cast.

Iervolino is quickly making his way through the major automotive icons of Europe in the 20th century. In addition to the two films already released and this new project, Iervolino is also working on a project telling the story of the Maserati brothers. That film will star Anthony Hopkins as a financier who bankrolls the brothers.

Bugatti Was Italian-Born, Built His Car Company In France
Ettore Bugatti was born in 1881 in Milan but established his car company in what is now part of France. His automotive career started at a company called De Dietrich at the turn of the 20th century, and he started the company that wears his name in 1909.
During WWI, Bugatti designed aircraft engines but switched back to automobiles after the War. Early successes in Grand Prix racing, including a win at the first-ever Monaco Grand Prix, helped raise the company’s standing.
