BCCI gives a shocker to Rahul Dravid; brings in Ravi Shastri for special position in Hyderabad

Former India allrounder and head coach Ravi Shastri will be honored with the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award in the upcoming BCCI Awards. The award ceremony is scheduled to take place on Tuesday (January 23) in Hyderabad, the venue for the first IND vs ENG Test.

The event will also mark the return of the BCCI award ceremony as it will be held for the first time since 2019. The BCCI could not host the ceremony in the last few years due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The Indian team as well as the England team are expected to attend the star-studded ceremony. The event will also be attended by numerous former cricketers.

Ravi Shastri will be getting the Lifetime Achievement Award in the BCCI Awards ceremony. He will join the likes of Kapil Dev, Sunil Gavaskar, Syed Kirmani, and Kris Srikkanth amongst others in receiving the CK Nayudu Award for lifetime achievement. The last winner of the award was former opener Krishnamachari Srikkanth in 2019.

Ravi Shastri’s career in numbers:

Ravi Shastri plied his trade for Team India from 1981 to 1992. Ravi Shastri played 80 Tests and 150 ODIs for the team. The former cricketer-turned-commentator was a part of the Indian team that won the historic World Cup in 1983.

In Tests, he scored 3830 runs with the help of 11 centuries and 12 half-centuries and also picked up 151 wickets. In ODIs, he scored 3108 runs with the help of 4 centuries and 18 half-centuries in addition to taking 129 wickets.

In 1985, he was adjudged the Champion of Champions in the World Championship of Cricket in Australia. In the same season, he also became the first Indian cricketer and only the second overall after Garry Sobers hit six sixes in an over in first-class cricket.

BCCI Awards 2023/24:

Apart from giving the Lifetime Achievement award, the BCCI will also present the Polly Umrigar Award for the best men’s international cricketer, the best international cricketer in women’s cricket for India, the best umpire, and the best domestic side.

As per a report in India Today, young opener Shubman Gill is set to receive the Polly Umrigar Award for the best men’s cricketer of the year for 2023. The right-handed batsman enjoyed a prolific year with the bat, scoring 2154 runs in international cricket, the most by any batter in 2023. He slammed 7 centuries in 2023 including his maiden double-hundred in ODIs and a century in T20Is.
