Cleaning expert warns of ‘disgusting’ mistake people make

Hygiene guru Mary Futher, known as Madame Sweat, has issued a stark warning about a “disgusting” blunder many make while scrubbing their toilets.

The cleaning expert has pointed out a critical error in our toilet-cleaning ways, and it’s all about the misuse of the humble toilet brush.

Taking to Instagram with her wealth of cleaning knowledge, Mary highlighted a common yet unsanitary practice: “If you just finish washing your toilet with this [holding up the toilet brush] and then you do this [putting it back in its holder], that’s disgusting.”

She went on to demonstrate the proper, more “hygienic” method for dealing with a used toilet brush. Mary advised her social media followers with clear instructions: “After you finish cleaning the debris in your toilet bowl, then you want to wash the brush with the same cleanser that you use to clean your toilet bowl.”

She didn’t stop there, adding another crucial step: “After that, spray the brush itself with hydrogen peroxide. Then use this drying technique before you put it back in the holder. Now that’s hygienic.”

She captioned the post: “Not cleaning this [the toilet brush] before putting away is disgusting.” This comment sparked a wave of disgust among cleaning enthusiasts who were shocked to discover that some people don’t properly clean their toilet brushes.

One Instagram user expressed disbelief, commenting: “Oh, man! I thought everyone cleaned the brush after cleaning the toilet.” Another was appreciative, saying: “Love this cleaning tip.”

Someone else was more forthright, stating: “If you haven’t been doing this then we can’t be friends.”

Yet, there were those who confessed to not knowing the proper method, with one admitting: “I never knew what to do with it, honestly; I just keep it in between the seat to dry then put it back but I knew it had to be more.”

Another gratefully added: “Oh good! I never knew how to clean it thank you.” One individual shared their own approach, suggesting: “Just put bleach in the holder and let it sit in there before next use.”

Another recommended: “And you could spray a little bit of the hydrogen peroxide in the bottom of the brush holder also.”
