Hotel cleaners use 29p hack to keep towels ‘soft’

The secret to achieving hotel-standard towels and bed sheets at home has been revealed by cleaning expert Nic Shacklock based at Online Bedrooms.

Despite the frequent washing, hotels manage to maintain their linens in pristine condition, a feat many homeowners wish to replicate.

Towels, in particular, can quickly become stiff or worn due to heavy use and regular washing. However, Shacklock has shared an inexpensive cleaning hack, costing just 29p, that can rejuvenate your towels.

The trick involves using white vinegar, a common household item, which is available for just 29p at Tesco. This multi-purpose product is useful due to its acetic acid content.

It’s mild enough not to damage household items, yet powerful enough to eliminate bacteria and stains that could otherwise build up on towels.

Shacklock has revealed a nifty trick for reviving your tired towels, suggesting the use of two to three cups of white vinegar in your washing machine, a “popular trick” amongst hotels and holiday spots globally.

He further mentioned: “Products like white vinegar, bleach and extra fabric conditioner are some of the ways to give towels a new spruce of life.”

The towel expert also highlighted that this method could potentially prolong the lifespan of your towels: “Towels should be replaced every two years but they may be able to survive a few months longer by using these handy tips.”

The expert recommends either adding the vinegar to your fabric softener drawer, which ensures it’s watered down and won’t overwhelm your towels, or pouring it directly into the drum during the rinse cycle.

But the wonders of white vinegar don’t stop there; it’s also touted as an excellent cleaner for your washing machine’s drum. For a thorough clean, place two cups of vinegar in the drum and run a hot cycle with no clothes.

Not only is vinegar cost-effective and efficient, but it’s also eco-friendly, making it an ideal choice for those seeking sustainable cleaning options.

A bottle of white vinegar is handy for recreating soft towels, as well as removing limescale from bathroom items, and cleaning stains from clothes.

Instead of stocking up on lots of different cleaning products, having white vinegar, baking soda and lemon to hand can do a lot of chores for a fraction of the cost.
