Mum’s hack to remove tough oil stains from clothes using two kitchen cupboard staples

Oil stains can be a horror to clean. Whether you’re tucking into a salad dressed with olive oil or greasy pizza, the last thing you want is a permanent shiny stain left behind by your tasty meal.

Fortunately, a mum has revealed how to get rid of “tough” oil stains on your clothes. Chantel Mila, expert in styling, organising and cleaning, took to her TikTok to outline five simple steps that can tackle pesky grease stains.

What’s more, Mila, also known as @mama_mila_ on the social media platform, explained her tip will remove even old stains. “Say goodbye to oil stains on your favourite clothes,” the mum captioned the TikTok.

The hack won’t even break the bank as you only need cupboard staples like dish soap and baking soda. Mila instructed starting by placing the clothing item in question over a plate.

Once the stain has a plate behind it, you need to cover the garment in dish soap. The mum shared that this will “cut through the oil”.

In the next step, you sprinkle baking soda on top of the dish soap. According to Mila, this will help to “absorb the oil”.

After you’ve added the two cleaning products, you should leave the piece of clothing soaking in the kitchen cupboard staples for 10 minutes.

When you’re done with this step, the mum recommended washing the garment as usual.

Facebook user Anne-Marie Staff asked on the group: “Hi there is anyone able to help me? My husband’s trousers appear to have some grease on them. We only noticed after they came out of the wash.”

Anne-Marie’s post was inundated with comments but the most popular response was to use Fairy washing up liquid.

Teresa Baxter said: “I put some cold water over the stain and then covered it in Fairy liquid and rubbed in and left overnight then washed as normal and it came right out. Good luck.”
