SCO chief comments on Taiwan regional election results

The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) will continue to firmly support the Chinese government’s stance on the Taiwan question, adhere to the one-China principle, and oppose “Taiwan independence” separatism in any form, Secretary-General of the SCO Zhang Ming said on Sunday.

Zhang made the remarks in response to a query by Xinhua News Agency on commenting on the outcomes of Taiwan regional leadership election.

The Government of the People’s Republic of China is the sole legal government representing the whole of China and Taiwan is an inalienable part of China, said Zhang, adding that the Taiwan question is China’s internal affair.

He said the SCO abides by the purposes and principles of the UN Charter and the SCO Charter, respects the sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity of its member states, and safeguards the security and development interests of all member states.
