Bentley
Bentley Motors Limited is a British manufacturer of luxury automobiles. Its early history (particularly during the 1920s) is marked by several wins in the 24 Hours of Le Mans endurance race, and although the brand still competes in various motorsport disciplines around the world, it’s become synonymous with Rolls-Royce (once its owner) as a purveyor of exquisite luxury goods and fine design. Its Mulliner division creates ultra-exclusive bespoke vehicles, carrying on a long-standing tradition of coachbuilding that H.J. Mulliner & Co. started in 1897.

Satin paint has been exploding in popularity recently, with automakers from Ford to Rivian offering matte paint options as a way for buyers to set their vehicles apart. The colors diffuse the light across the bodywork instead of reflecting it back as gloss paint does, and the process of creating it, whether a wrap or handcrafted into the finish, is time-consuming and expensive. This makes it a perfect option for Bentley and a great way for you to set your Continental GT apart.
How Is Satin Paint Created?
The satin finish is hand-applied by expert Bentley paint technicians at the company’s Excellence Center for Bespoke Paint. The vehicle first arrives in the gloss color of choice before it’s hand-sanded, cleaned, masked, and then dusted and cleaned once more to set the perfect scene for the satin process. This involves taking a clear lacquer and hand-applying it in two stages, ensuring perfect uniformity.

The entire process takes 55 hours and then must be inspected by an independent Production Quality Team that ensures every surface is near to perfect, otherwise more hours are tacked on. Not every color can be given a satin finish, as the look has to be up to Bentley’s paint standards. Each new color chosen was developed by a team at Bentley’s Dream Factory in Crewe, England, and the company says it will bring out the sculptural lines in vehicles like the Bentayga better than ever before.
