A cleaning guru has shared a unique hack for cleaning washing machines – and it only costs 50p from Boots.
With spring now here, many Britons will be looking to give their homes a thorough clean ready for the warmer, longer days ahead.
However, cleaning can be a laborious chore, especially when it comes to cleaning your appliances.
Casey Major-Bunce, known as @majormumhacks to her 450,000 Instagram followers, is a cleaning influencer who shares her “life hacks” on the social media platform.
Rather than resorting to harsh chemicals to clean your washing machine, the cleaning pro suggested using a much simpler solution.
Lemons are fantastic for cleaning because they are naturally antibacterial and antiseptic and can be used as a natural bleach.
Casey suggests using lemons and toothpaste to remove unpleasant smells from washing machines.
She explained: “Cut a lemon open and apply some toothpaste on it. Then place it in the washing machine on a high setting and let it run.
“The toothpaste is abrasive and helps to remove mildew, grime and dirt from the washing machine.
“The acid from the lemon is naturally antibacterial and helps to clean the drum.”
As well as cleaning washing machines, lemons can be used to clean wooden chopping boards and microwaves.
Some people also use them to clean the interior of their dishwasher and their kettles.
