Five ways to ‘naturally freshen’ your bedding without washing it

1. Air it out

On sunny days, homeowners can hang their bedding outdoors on a clothesline to air it.

The experts said: “Fresh air and sunlight can help naturally freshen up your bedding and deodorise fabrics.”

2. Use baking soda

The experts said: “Sprinkle a thin layer of baking soda across your mattress, pillows, and inside pillowcases.

“Leave this to sit for a few hours to absorb any odours, and then vacuum it up.”

3. Essential oils

Misting your bed with a mixture of essential oils and water in a spray bottle is a great way to freshen up your bedding without having to soak and wash your duvet covers, pillowcases and fitted sheets.

Some popular scents are lavender, lemon and peppermint as they are refreshing and a welcome choice for a bedroom.

4. Air purifier

The experts suggested using an air purifier to help remove lingering odours and keep the air clear and fresh.

5. Vacuuming

Homeowners can use a vacuum with a brush attachment to gently vacuum mattresses and pillows.

Doing this will help to remove dust dirt and any potential allergens that are trapped in the fibres.
