Porsche shop Gunther Werks has just revealed its latest ultra-custom take on the Porsche 911. It’s called the GWX, and it will build on the company’s existing 911-based enhancements. The car will get more carbon fiber panels shared with no other cars the company makes, plus a special new paint shade that will be exclusive to the model. With a candy purple with silver pinstripe and an exposed weave of carbon fiber running down the hood, this purple Porsche dinosaur stands out in any crowd. And stand out it needs to, as only a handful will ever exist, and you have to be specially invited by Gunther Werks to buy one.
Gunther Werks Builds Each Car From A Bare Shell
To build the GWX, Gunther Werks starts with a 993-generation Porsche 911 chassis. Its Coupe models, the starting point for this car, begin by stripping and completely restoring the bare shell to whatever level is needed. It’s a blank canvas for the company to start its builds with. For the GWX, there’s no blarney. Gunther adds chassis bracing developed for its 700-horsepower Turbo project cars to make the car stiffer and let the suspension do its job and deliver what it says is a highly enhanced driving experience.
Instead of the Turbo’s engine, the GWX gets an evolution of the power plant used for the lightweight GWR car. It’s a 4.0-liter flat-six built by Rothsport, and for this car will make 440 horsepower. It includes Gunther’s Slide Valve throttle body system, which the company says delivers razor-sharp throttle response as well as more airflow when you’re running flat out. With the system, the throttle plate slides in and out of the air space, instead of pivoting in the center. So when you’ve got your foot down, the airflow is completely unimpeded by the throttle.
The list of carbon panels is a list of almost every body part of the car. The vented front fenders, rear quarters, side skirts, hood, bumpers, diffusers, and rear wing are all made from the lightweight composite material, and they all have a design that is unique to the GWX.
This Purple Car Will Make You Green With Envy
Gunther made the candy purple specifically for the GWX, and it won’t let any other buyers use it. The silver pinstripes make the color pop, and the herringbone of exposed carbon on the hood is the kind of touch that lets people remember exactly why they’ve purchased a reimagined Porsche that likely ran the better part of seven figures.

The look of this car is what we imagine Porsche would have built had it stuck with the air-cooled body for the more than 25 years since the 993 went away. One of the most impressive parts of a Gunther Werks build is that it looks far more extreme than any factory Porsche, but it does so in a way that doesn’t seem out of form for the German automaker. In other words, it doesn’t look like Porsche built it, but it looks like it could have.
GW has also gone through the interior, fitting new carbon bucket seats and carbon fiber door panels. There’s a new dash with bespoke gauges, and even an updated modern gearshift.
Gunther Werks plans to make this a very limited car. It plans to build just three units, and if you want one of them, you need to get an invite from the company.
