How to remove limescale from toilet fast without bleach or scrubbing

Limescale is probably the hardest to remove from toilets as the bowl is always being subjected to the minerals in the water.

While hard water does not threaten your life, it can increase your household bills and decrease the lifespan of your plumbing and appliances, increasing your household costs over time.

This is because appliances, such as your water heater, are less efficient, requiring more energy to heat a tank of water.

Without treating hard water, you also increase your monthly spending on essential household items such as cleaning supplies and detergents.

However, these costs can be reduced if households use products they already own like one cleaning enthusiast has done.

Taking to the Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips Facebook page, Denise Scott shared a natural item she used after months of failed attempts.

She said: “Hi all, I’ve just cleaned some really thick limescale off a toilet that I’ve been struggling with for months.

“It just wouldn’t come off and I tried everything! I’ve just tried something new and it’s all gone. Citric acid is a game-changer.

“I made the whole batch, pumped the water out of the bowl and poured it in. Left for an hour and when I flushed it was sparkling! I’m so impressed.”

She used 200g of citric acid, added boiling water to it and made sure all of the citric acid had dissolved. She left the solution to cool completely before adding it to a spray bottle and applying it to the toilet.

Denise added that she had previously given bleach a go on her toilet, but the stains had just lightened rather than being removed.

Fellow Mrs Hinch cleaning fans in the comments shared their thoughts on using citric acid to remove toilet limescale.

Joanne Emma wrote: “I use this. It is great for keeping toilets, taps, basins and showers free of limescale.
