Roasting pans look as good as ‘new’ with 9p kitchen essential that melts grime

Internet users have praised an alternative cleaning hack for removing stubborn grime from roasting dishes so they come out good as new.

Although dishwasher tablets were primarily formulated to clean dishes, glassware, and cutlery in dishwashers, cleaning enthusiasts have discovered an array of uses for them.

To help loosen burnt-on food from pots and pans they recommend filling the recipient with hot water and a dishwasher tablet and letting it soak before scrubbing.

This will ultimately help break down any food residues and help them slide off once you’re ready to use a sponge.

The trick emerged on the Facebook page ‘Mrs Hinch Made Me Do It’ after one member asked: “Good morning, any tips on how to clean this roasting pan?

“It normally goes into the dishwasher. I don’t really want to get rid of it as it came with the oven and slides into the shelves perfectly.”

Others were quick to volunteer solutions, one of which garnered praise from several members of the group.

“Absolutely soak in dishwasher tablets, they come up like new,” said one user, while another suggested: “Boiling water, two dishwasher tablets and leave overnight. You may need to repair.”

Using dishwashers to remove caked-on grime from cookware and kitchen appliances is becoming increasingly popular for a number of reason.

Firstly, they’re affordable. Dishwasher tablets retail for about £3.70 at Tesco for a pack of 40, which equates to about 9p per tablet.

The product also compromises concentrated detergents that break down food particles, grease and stains with more efficiency than generic dish soaps.

Some varieties of tablets also contain enzymes – namely amylase and protease – that digest proteins and starches by breaking them down into smaller pieces.

This process mimics the enzymes in the human stomach when digestion starts after eating.
