A professional driver has revealed a clever trick for removing stubborn oil stains from driveways.
In a YouTube video, the popular channel Donut Media demonstrated how they tackled the tricky task.
“So the driveway is permanently stained – or is it?” asked YouTuber Zach Jobe. He explained that their driveway had become dirty with oil, grease and other car-related grime, leaving hard-to-remove, “notoriously difficult” stains.
The team tested three different cleaning products on their driveway to find out which one worked best.
They used laundry detergent for $9 (£7.15), Rust-oleum for $22 (£17.47) and Backrete for $50 (£39.70), each applied to a section of the stained driveway.
The car pros said Backcrete takes 48 hours to be effective and is a “microbial bacteria that literally eats the oil out of your driveway”. The laundry detergent also worked but required a lot of scrubbing.
While Backrete isn’t available in the UK, a similar product called Zep Driveway, Concrete and Masonry cleaner can be bought from ScrewFix for £13.79.
You can find laundry powder at most local supermarkets in the UK. Persil Bio Fabric Cleaning Washing Powder is priced at £10.45 from Asda, and you can get Sainsbury’s own Laundry Powder for just £4.75.
The Rust-oleum needed a lot of hard scrubbing with a stiff broom.
In the end, Jobe found that Rust-oleum was the best cleaner.
“It looks good, it didn’t cost that much, and you didn’t have to scrub that hard,” Jobe explained.
