The Nissan Z currently starts at $42,970 without destination, which, if you exclude the $66,000 Z Nismo, makes it the most affordable sports car in America that can produce up to 400 horsepower. That’s quite a bargain for a relatively powerful coupe, but if the base Sport trim is enough for you, you can find yourself great deals right now with brand-new units selling way below MSRP.
A quick search on Cars.com shows that a number of dealerships in the US are listing their Nissan Zs at around $38,000. The most affordable ones we’ve found are from Berlin City Nissan of Portland, Maine listed at $35,500, while Kerry Nissan of Florence, Kentucky lists its base Z at $37,906 – both wearing black paint and selling within the ballpark of the way-less-potent Mazda MX-5 Miata RF that starts at $37,350.
Manual Or Automatic, The Markups Are Over
Those two we mentioned are certainly the cheapest, cutting Nissan’s MSRP by about $5,000, but there are a lot more that sell below $40,000. In fact, as we searched further we found more units in various configurations and colors, either equipped with a 6-speed stick shift or a 9-speed automatic transmission. But one thing’s common among them – they are all selling below MSRP.

Nissan About To Cut Production And Jobs In The US
The Japanese automaker is having a hard time, and drastic measures must be taken.
That’s quite a contrast to when Nissan introduced the Nissan Z in 2022. Some dealer markups at that time went as high as $50,000, negating Nissan’s otherwise bargain pricing. The unfortunate saga continued to 2023, with one of the highest we’ve seen was a ridiculous $89,995 markup, listing the Z Nismo for $158,495. Imagine paying six digits for a Z-car.
Entire Nissan Lineup Selling Less Than MSRP
The below-MSRP pricing for the Z isn’t endemic to the sports coupe, with prices in 2024 for the rest of Nissan’s lineup also going below the automaker’s suggested pricing. That certainly helped Nissan to stay afloat last year, posting a 3.8 percent sales growth in the US compared to its performance in 2023, with the Nissan Rogue leading the charge by moving a total of 245,724 units.

Take a closer look at Nissan’s undeniably popular compact SUV.
Interestingly, the Nissan Z was also popular last year, with the Japanese marque selling 3,164 units by the end of the year – a 78.7 percent increase over the units sold in 2023. Will this trend continue this year? Let’s wait and see, but we have to remember that the volume of sales doesn’t necessarily reflect profit for the brand, which means it’s losing money over these bargain prices.
