Hot off the tail of the recently-revealed 2026 Subaru Trailseeker all-electric SUV, Subaru is already cooking up another one for the US market. This time it’s going smaller, promising the reveal of a new all-electric compact crossover coming in a live online reveal on July 17.

Where Solterra’s branding might seem anonymous, and the Trailseeker EV name seems like a bit of a misnomer for a limited-range electric model, the new compact crossover EV will be called Uncharted. This name might be better suited to the emerging electric vehicle segment, and fits in nicely with the company’s adventurous aesthetic.
A Toyota C-HR For Subaru?
Subaru has given us enough hints to suggest that this new EV will likely be based in some way on the new global Toyota C-HR EV, as the two companies already work together on other models like the Solterra EV. All C-HR trims come with a 74.7-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery pack good for about 290 miles of driving range. It’s 3.9 inches shorter in wheelbase than the larger Solterra. It is also 6.5 inches shorter in overall length, and over an inch lower in overall height, so this new Subaru should be the smallest EV on offer from the brand. The new C-HR is estimated to hit 60 mph from standstill in less than 5 seconds, as its dual-motor setup puts down 338 combined horsepower going to all four wheels.

Performance At What Price?
It’s not looking very likely that Japan and its industries will get any special reprieve from new US tariffs on imported parts and vehicles, which could mean this new Subaru EV will have a higher-than-anticipated sticker price. Still, it will likely be the most affordable EV the company offers in the States, coming in somewhere under the current Solterra EV’s near-$40,000 starting price. It could be more, though, if it’s advertised as more of a performance model, which is the positioning Toyota seems to be taking with the C-HR. Of course, this all depends on the new Subaru using the C-HR platform.
Just The Beginning?
Looking up online records indicates that Subaru first filed a trademark for the new “Uncharted” name back in February of 2024, though no special script, font, or badging has been publicly listed yet. Interestingly, around the same time, the company was also considering names like “Highroad” and “Trailhead,” which could come back up later for future models. Other possible future names that have been marked by Subaru in the past include “Accomplice,” “Everguide,” “Everpass,” “Getaway,” “Highroad,” “Outsider,” “Tailwind,” and “Viewfinder.”

This new Subaru Uncharted EV will be revealed live online on July 17 at 7:30 p.m. Eastern on Subaru’s social media channels and corporate website. The sole teaser image shows a sweptback roof, two-tone paintwork with black up top over red down low, a solid rear light bar, and a large “Subaru” script across the tailgate.
