Apparently the American Toyota Land Cruiser, or Land Cruiser Prado in other markets, is in high demand as an armored vehicle. In addition to Armormax, which we covered back in December, vehicle armorer INKAS has turned its attention to the boxy, retro-styled SUV. It adds ballistic and explosive protection, and can add plenty of other security features if you want.

Have It Secured Your Way
Depending on your needs and budget, your INKAS Land Cruiser may be a little different than some others, but the basics are all the same. The company fully armors the passenger compartment, and that includes the doors, floor, firewall and roof. The cargo area gets an additional armored door inside the exterior hatch. The windows are also armored, and the driver-side window can still retract into the door. All of this armor adds weight, so the suspension is upgraded, as are the door hinges. Runflat tires are standard, too. The level of armor can vary depending on needs, but the maximum resistance available is to 7.62-mm assault rifle fire and blasts from hand grenades.
The example Land Cruiser INKAS built, shown in the gallery above, includes a number of optional features such as strobe lights and a siren and PA system. Those are just the start of the options on offer. Additional armor for the bumpers, engine bay, radiator, and exhaust are available, along with a fire suppression system for the engine bay. An assist mechanism can help with opening the heavier doors, and a roof escape hatch can help exiting a tough situation. Night-vision and surround-view cameras can provide a better view of said tough situation, and an air filtration system can provide additional interior protection.

INKAS has its order books open for its armored Land Cruisers. The company says that it can take a few weeks to a few months to produce a finished armored vehicle, depending on equipment and customer needs. The company can either armor your existing Land Cruiser, or it can get one and armor it for you. It didn’t give pricing, but expect to pay substantially more than the base Land Cruiser’s MSRP of $56,700 plus the $1,450 destination charge. For reference, Armormax’s basic armor package for a Land Cruiser is $50,000, and that’s in addition to the cost of the car. Also, if you happen to want a different kind of armored vehicle, both INKAS and Armormax can outfit a wide array of vehicles. INKAS, for instance, has packages for everything from the humble Toyota Camry, to something as unusual as an Ineos Grenadier.
