The Aston Martin Vanquish Volante’s Hips Do Lie

The Aston Martin Vanquish was revealed in coupe form just last month, and now Gaydon’s engineers are putting the finishing touches on its drop-top sibling, known as the Volante. Although we already know what a Vanquish body looks like, the prototype spotted here is wearing loads of concealing camouflage, which extends as far as fake body paneling on the rear three-quarters.

2025 Aston Martin Vanquish Coupe

Base Trim Horsepower
824 hp

Base Trim Torque
738 lb-ft

0-60 MPH
3.2 seconds

Top Speed
214 mph

Presumably, this development vehicle was constructed long before the coupe was revealed and the camouflage has been retained because it’s convenient. Whatever the reason, the Vanquish Volante will differ slightly from its hardtop relation, with the rear deck accommodating a folding roof.

No Ducktail Spoiler

It appears that the curvaceous trunk lid of the coupe will make way for something flatter. Although it’s entirely plausible that a different trunk lid could be fitted, we doubt this because the center high-mounted stop lamp appears at the bottom of the rear window, and a ducktail spoiler would obscure this from following cars. The hardtop has its center brake light at the top of the rear glass, so it’s a non-issue there.

In every other respect, we expect to see the Volante match the Vanquish coupe. The diffuser, with its quad-exit exhaust, looks unchanged, and the taillights, headlights, and vented hood are unlikely to change. A massive front grille opening and extraction vents in the front fenders will also appear.

V12 Singing In Your Ears

It’s safe to say that the cabin will also follow the lead of the coupe model, likely with the addition of some wind deflectors to keep buffeting winds from dislodging hairpieces. Helping achieve the opposite effect will be a 5.2-liter twin-turbocharged V12 engine delivering 824 horsepower and 738 lb-ft of torque. In the coupe, this enables 0-60 mph in 3.2 seconds and a top speed of 214 mph, but the weight of the folding roof will likely translate to a slightly slower acceleration time. Similarly, the dropped top will reduce the V-max figure slightly. We expect the Vanquish Volante to debut sometime before the end of this year.
